How We Helped Bible Now Deploy a Secure, Scalable Jitsi Meet Platform with Advanced Customization

In the era of remote connectivity, Bible Now needed a reliable and secure video conferencing solution customized to their branding and technical requirements. They sought a robust Jitsi Meet deployment with recording and live streaming capabilities, designed for scalability and strict security policies. Our team partnered with Bible Now to deploy this Dockerized Jitsi infrastructure on their Hetzner servers, delivering a tailored platform ready for high-demand usage.

The Challenge

Bible Now required a fully containerized Jitsi Meet setup on Hetzner infrastructure with complete SSL encryption and custom branding. They also needed Jibri integration for meeting recording and live streaming functionality. Beyond this, the platform had to support manual scaling of core services to manage increased user load. Strict security controls like JWT authentication and preventing participants from ending meetings were essential, alongside a smooth user experience with redirection upon meeting end.

Our Approach

To meet Bible Now’s vision, we followed a detailed, step-by-step process to ensure a secure, scalable, and branded Jitsi Meet environment:

1. Dockerized Jitsi Deployment on Hetzner: Utilized the official Docker Jitsi repository to deploy all components, ensuring clean and modular infrastructure on the client’s dedicated Hetzner servers.

2. SSL Configuration: Secured all communications with SSL certificates via Let’s Encrypt or client’s provided certificates, ensuring encrypted traffic for all participants.

3. Custom Branding Implementation: Replaced default Jitsi UI elements with Bible Now’s logo, platform name, and brand color scheme to deliver a consistent visual identity.

4. Jibri Installation & Configuration: Set up Jibri containers to enable meeting recording and live streaming features, integrated with platforms such as YouTube using RTMP streaming keys.

5. Manual Scaling Enablement: Configured manual scaling capabilities for Jitsi Videobridges and other core components to efficiently handle varying user concurrency and load demands.

6. Advanced Security Features: Integrated JWT-based authentication for secure meeting access, restricted participant permissions to disallow ending meetings, and implemented redirect functionality to direct users to a custom URL after meetings conclude.

7. Environment & Deployment Management: Leveraged a private GitHub repository with secure environment variable management in .env files. Provided thorough documentation for maintenance and future scalability.

8. Handover & Documentation: Delivered comprehensive deployment and operational documentation along with post-project support guidelines.
